Event poster

The local chapter of the NAACP along with representatives from law enforcement officials from several departments around the region will participate in an online forum next week.

Officials will host the event called “Well Past Due: A Conversation Between Northwest Arkansas Police Departments and the Black Community” via Zoom beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 17.

The discussion will include representatives from the Fayetteville Police Department, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, the Bentonville Police Department, and the Centerton Police Department along with members of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and the Omicron Zeta Lamba Chapter. The discussion will be moderated by Shaun Mayo.

From the description of the event:

The Northwest Arkansas NAACP will host a [virtual] conversation with local enforcement in order to discuss openly what has been the past relationship to and between BIPOC individuals with our local police department. This event will serve to provide constructive dialogue and transparency between law enforcement and its community members. The hope for this space is to spark on-going conversation for how to engage safely and respectfully with law enforcement locally.
