Jones Center seeks RFQs from local artists for campus redesign project

The Jones Center is looking to hire up to three local artists to participate in the creative redevelopment of the center’s outdoor campus in Springdale.

The center, along with landscape architecture firm Civitas, Inc., plans to transform the 52-acre grounds of its campus into a regional destination with park-like green spaces, bike paths, public art installations, and other infrastructure improvements. The project is funded by a Walton Family Foundation Design Excellence grant.

Up to three artists will be contracted to serve on the project’s design team, and work with landscape architects and others during the design development phase.

The project will be completed in two phases.

The first phase includes concept development in which each artist will eventually develop and submit a preliminary concept and proposal.

Selected artists will work on the first phase for about three months beginning sometime around August 2021. Artists will be expected to commit at least 100 hours to the work, including time in workshops and performing personal work to develop their preliminary concept and supporting materials.

Each selected artist will be compensated with a fee of $10,000 to complete the deliverables required in the first phase.

Selected artists whose proposals are accepted will enter a separate contract for the second phase to further refine, detail, and complete the proposed artwork through completion of the overall project.

Artists may apply individually or as small teams. The deadline for applications is June 16, 2021.
