Weekend Flyer: Trail Mix, Read Southall, Monk is King, Diamond Hogs and more

Do you hear that sound? Us either. That’s the (absence of) sound created by the students being mostly gone for the summer in Fayetteville. We’re not saying that’s a good or a bad thing, but it’s definitely a noticeable change this time of year. It’s a little quiet out there.

Of course, it’s not totally quiet. You can still hear plenty of music coming from the stage at George’s Majestic Lounge all weekend. The venue will host the annual I Love Fayetteville Big Party benefit for the Junior Civic League on Friday night, followed by Oklahoma country-rockers Read Southall on Saturday, and country/blues songwriter Charlie Crockett on Sunday this weekend. You’ll find ticket info here.

There will also be plenty of sound coming from the Frisco Trail on Friday night, as the Walton Arts Center hosts their annual Trail Mix of performances along the trail system downtown. This year’s event will include performances by Bike Zoo, Jayme Stone and local artists Papa Rap, Melody Pond, Block Street Hot Club, Jayme Stone, Smokey and the Mirror, and NWA Ballet Theatre. Here’s more info on that. It’s free, too.

Come to think of it, you’ll also hear a roar of sound coming from Baum Walker Stadium, where the No. 1 ranked Razorback baseball team finish out the regular season with a weekend series versus Florida this weekend. The stadium is back to full capacity, and the Hogs handled the Gators last night, 6-1. The series concludes on Friday and Saturday, weather permitting of course.

There are still plenty of chances to see TheatreSquared’s latest show, At the Wedding, at their facility downtown. Ticket info for that show is here.

Prairie Street Live is also planning to have a show on Saturday night with local bands Monk is King and Eureka Strings, also weather permitting. Here’s more on that.

The Farmers’ Market will be hoppin’ down on the Square on Saturday morning as well, as it always is this time of year.

Hmm. After all that, guess it’s not that quiet out there after all.

As always, feel free to let us know what you’re up to this weekend in the comments below. Have a great weekend, everyone.
