Weekend Flyer: Pride Parade, Rodeo of the Ozarks, Chicago, and more

Staff photo

You guys are going to need some comfortable shoes this weekend. There’s a lot happening in (and around) Fayetteville.

It’s NWA Pride weekend, and there are several events related to that happening in the region. On Friday night, local artist Christopher Rumwolf will be illuminating the Mount Sequoyah overlook in rainbow colors.

Then the annual NWA Pride Parade will make its way up Dickson Street and to the square beginning at around noon on Saturday. Details on this year’s parade and other festivities are here.

After the parade, local restaurant Bordinos will host some of the most talented mixologists in Fayetteville for a cocktail competition on their patio. Proceeds will benefit local LGBTQIA+ organizations. Here’s more on that.

Also on Saturday, Kingfish has a NWA Pride show with music by DJ Cudcareless at 12:30 p.m., followed by the NWA Pride Bear Contest at 3:30 p.m., and a performance by the Sarah Hughs Band at around 9 p.m.

The Rodeo of the Ozarks is happening up in Springdale this weekend. There’s a rodeo parade in downtown Springdale at 3 p.m., and the rodeo will take place both Friday and Saturday night at around 7:30 p.m. Here’s more info about that. Springdale-born fiddle player Jenee Fleenor, a member of country star Blake Shelton’s band who has won multiple award and considered one of the best modern players in country music, will be honored as part of the festivities. Fleenor will serve as Grand Marshal of the Rodeo of the Ozarks parade, and she’ll later perform the National Anthem to open the rodeo Saturday night. Fleenor will also perform at Walter Turnbow Park on Sunday. Here’s more on that.

Also up in Springdale this weekend is the SeltzerFest event we wrote about earlier this week up at Core’s taproom. There is music by Monk Is King and Dirty Flannel Shirt, food trucks including Smok’d TX BBQ, Otra, and Mad Hatter, and of course, plenty of cold, bubbly seltzer to enjoy. Here’s more on that.

The first Walmart AMP show in nearly two years is happening up in Rogers when 80s hitmakers Chicago take the stage on Friday night. Ticket info is here.

Speaking of firsts, the first ever theatrical performance in the new performing arts center inside the expanded Fayetteville Public Library is also happening this week with TheatreSquared’s new show, Matilda. Here’s a bit more on that.

There’s a ton more below. George’s has Wight Lighters and Chris Graeber Band on Saturday, Crystal Bridges has a Forest Concert Series show with locals Still on the Hill and Trout Fishing in America, and it’s the last chance to check out Obie award-winners 600 Highwaymen’s performance of A Thousand Ways (Part Two): An Encounter at the Momentary.

Have fun, y’all.
