The first show at the newly-remodeled JJ’s Live (formerly JBGB) was announced this week.

Venue officials on Tuesday said that Austin-based country artist Parker McCollum is scheduled to perform on the new stage on Thursday, Sept. 2.

It will be the first show at the venue in nearly two years. The restaurant originally opened in the spring of 2017 as a new destination for craft brews and summer concerts, but the business closed in late 2019 with hopes of enclosing the patio area to allow for more frequent live music.

The pandemic derailed those plans for more than a year, but the restaurant announced last winter that construction had begun on enclosing the outdoor space.

In February, it was announced that Fort Worth-based company MAG Capital Partners, LLC had acquired the property at 3615 N. Steele Blvd., and would lease it back to the restaurant. Owner Jody Thornton said last spring that the expanded restaurant will include a larger live music lineup of local, regional, and national touring acts each year, along with other additions including a large TV for watching sporting events, a pickleball court, a duck pin bowling area, and other amenities.

JJ’s officials said this week they aren’t quite ready to announce an opening date , but they expect McCollum’s show to be the first in the new space.

Parker McCollum signed with Universal Music Group in 2019, and released his major label debut album, Hollywood Gold, last fall. The album earned McCollum his first – ever No. 1 hit with his Platinum – selling debut single, “Pretty Heart.” McCollum’s new single, titled “To Be Loved By You” and set to be included on his new album Gold Chain Cowboy, is playing on country radio now. McCollum performed at JBGB back in the summer of 2019.

Tickets to the show are $25 for general admission and $70 for VIPs, and go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 30 at stubs.net.
