East Fayetteville could soon have another oil change option near Mission and Crossover.

The Planning Commission earlier this month approved large-scale development plans for a Jiffy Lube auto service center at 1849 N. Crossover Road, about 400 feet south of the intersection at Mission Boulevard.

The plans show a 2,920-square-foot oil change drive thru facility with two bays, office space and associated parking on an undeveloped, 1.97-acre lot.

The property, located on the west side of Crossover Road, is adjacent to a Speedy Splash Carwash, and two lots north of a Grease Monkey auto service center. It is just south of Flynn Creek and a commercial strip where Penguin Ed’s BBQ is located.

Developers in 2017 hoped to eventually build a 4,000-square-foot restaurant of some type on the property, but that project never came to fruition.

Two variances were included for that previous development, one for access management which required the applicant to combine two separate driveways into one shared point of access, and another to the city’s streamside protection rules.

City planners said given that the conditions of approval still apply for those associated variances, each can be carried forward to the new development. A separate variance was approved to remove the requirement for a 5-foot landscape buffer between the car wash.

Jiffy Lube currently has 11 service centers in Arkansas, including one in Springdale and another in Bentonville, according to the company’s website.
