Race finishes to require temporary road closures in Fayetteville

This week’s Joe Martin Stage Race will require temporary road closures to allow riders to pass through some intersections on their way back into town.

The four-day race begins Thursday (Aug. 26) and ends Sunday afternoon (Aug. 29) in downtown Fayetteville.

The majority of the racecourses send riders south of Fayetteville, but all events begin and end in town and will lead to intermittent closures. Sunday’s race is a spectator-friendly criterium that takes place in the downtown area and will feature a closed course for the duration of that day’s events.

Scheduled closures are listed below:

Thursday, Aug. 26 – Walker Park finish

Portions of Willoughby Road, Morningside Drive, 15th Street, College Avenue, 13th Street and South Block Avenue by Walker Park will be intermittently closed to traffic as racers approach the finish line from the south between approximately 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 27 – Mount Sequoyah finish

Portions of Huntsville Road, Willow Avenue, Spring Street, Fletcher Avenue, Oklahoma Way, Missouri Way, Dogwood Lane and Assembly Drive will be intermittently closed to traffic as racers approach the finish line at Mount Sequoyah from approximately 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Residents are asked not park on those streets after 12 p.m. since they are part of the racecourse.

Sunday, Aug. 29 – Experience Fayetteville Criterium

The Experience Fayetteville Criterium race in downtown Fayetteville will require portions of Church Avenue, Mountain Street, Block Avenue, Center Street, East Avenue, Dickson Street, West Avenue and Spring Street to be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Residents are asked not park on those streets after 6 a.m. since they are part of the racecourse. The roads will remain accessible to local traffic when cyclists are not present.
