Some world class bike riders are in Fayetteville this week for the annual Joe Martin Stage Race. Next weekend, a different type of world class riders will be in town for another event just up the road.

That’s when Runway Bike Park on the campus of the Jones Center in Fayetteville will host the 2021 USA Pump Track Championships Series Final on Saturday, Sept. 4.

The Runway Bike Park in May hosted hundreds of cyclists at two USA Pump Track Championship qualifier events.

“Some of those riders could win again,” said Michael Kirk, Director of Recreation at The Jones Center. “Naturally, we encourage everyone who would like to race, regardless of previous experience, to test their speed and agility at this exciting championship event.”

The race is the culmination of USA Pump Track Championship qualifying rounds held across the U.S. in North Carolina, Texas and California. The two winners of the 17+ open category will go on to compete in the 2021 Red Bull UCI Pump Track World Championships on Oct. 15-17, 2021 in Lisbon, Portugal.

The event, however, is open to riders of all skill levels from age 7 and up. Riders will compete in six age-group categories, as follows.

Event Categories:
Category 1 – 7-10 years old
Category 2 – 11-12 years old
Category 3 – 13-14 years old
Category 4 – 15-16 years old
Category 5/Masters – 35+ open
Category 6 – 17+ open

Interested riders must register by 12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3 to be eligible to race.

Those interested in watching the action can check it out for free, and spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to watch the races trackside on large video screens. Race-day practice begins at 8:30 a.m., and the races begin at 9:45 a.m.
