Fayetteville to give away litter cleanup supplies and t-shirts

Fayetteville officials are inviting residents to help clean up the city’s parks, trails and waterways as part of the second annual Pick Up Where You Play series of events that will take place over the region this fall.

Several area cities have partnered with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service and the Boston Mountain Solid Waste District to host cleanups during most weekends through the end of October. It’s the second year for the event, which began in 2020 in response to more people visiting outdoor spaces and leaving their trash behind during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the series, Fayetteville will host a drive-through giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Parks and Recreation office building at 1455 S. Happy Hollow Road. City staff will hand out 50 litter-grabbers and 300 t-shirts on a first-come, first-served basis. Staff will also hand out bags and gloves for litter collection.

Participants can choose from a variety of events, including cleanups at Beaver Lake, Lake Sequoyah, Lake Fayetteville and Spring Creek in downtown Springdale.
