Fayetteville officials are inviting residents to help clean up the city’s three lakes during a series of scheduled events this fall.

Each year the city partners with local businesses and stewardship organizations to clean up the lakes and educate the public about the impact litter and pollutants have on local waterways, as well as the importance of their removal and prevention.

Three Saturday lake cleanups are scheduled, starting with Lake Sequoyah on Oct. 9 and Lake Fayetteville on Oct. 30, followed by Lake Wilson on Nov. 6. The first two cleanups are being held in conjunction with a region-wide cleanup effort, “Pick Up Where You Play.”

Participants 18 and older who volunteer for any of the regional Pick Up Where You Play events will be entered for a chance to win a guided striper fishing expedition on Beaver Lake, according to a news release.

RSVPs are recommended but not required. To RSVP, or for further information about volunteering, email [email protected] or call the city’s Parks and Recreation office at 479-444-3467.
