It was another rainy race day at Centennial Park on Wednesday.

After a full day of steady rain, riders finished the afternoon completely drenched in mud during the UCI Cyclocross World Cup races atop Millsap Mountain in Fayetteville.

The conditions were familiar for those who attended the second day of the 2019 Fayettecross event, but the stakes were much higher for the riders on Wednesday with the event being part of the UCI’s annual World Cup series.

Fayetteville’s event was one of only three stops in the United States on this season’s schedule, which began last weekend in Waterloo, Wisconsin.

With the Fayetteville event being televised around the globe, Wednesday’s races provided the world with a preview of the same course that will be used in the UCI CycloCross World Championships in January.

Dutch rider and reigning World Champion Lucinda Brand won the women’s race, while the Belgian Quinten Hermans took first in the men’s event.

Rounding out the women’s podium were Denise Betsema from the Netherlands, who finished just ahead of United States national champion Clara Honsinger.

In the men’s race, Belgian riders Eli Iserbyt and Michael Vanthourenhout finished second and third, respectively.

Below are some photos from Wednesday’s races.
