The best piece of advice we can think of to start this edition of the Weekend Flyer is to wear comfortable shoes. You’re going to need them if you’re gonna run around to all of this stuff this weekend.
Happy hour at George’s kicks off with a double suede show. There’s Ultra Suede, the longtime local party band of course, and the Swade Diablos (spelling intentional), a local rockabilly outfit. Later on, Ben Miller Duo will perform, and on Saturday, George’s has a three-band bill with Grateful Talking Deadheads, Lucas Parker, and Jessica Paige. Here’s ticket info to all their weekend’s shows.
Stooges Brass Band, an acclaimed New Orleans-based band, will be in town Friday night for a show at Holidaze on Block Avenue. The pre-sale tickets to the show are gone, but there will be tickets available at the door for $15 Friday night beginning at 5 p.m.
Update: Stooges Brass Band has added a Saturday night show at Maxine’s Tap Room. It’s a 9 p.m. show, and it’s free!
Also in music this weekend, harpist Mary Lattimore will perform an On the Map show on Mount Sequoyah Sunday night. It’s a 7:30 p.m. show. Here’s ticket info.
There are Christmas shows as well this weekend, including TheatreSquared’s new tradition of “A Christmas Carol” at the new Fayetteville Public Library performing arts space. A schedule, including ticket info is here.
SoNA also will perform their annual holiday shows this weekend, with performances of A Very SoNA Christmas on Saturday, followed by their family show, The Snowman: A Family Concert on Sunday. Tickets are here.
Also in performances, the annual Inverse Performance Art Symposium is back at the Momentary this weekend, with events scheduled on Saturday and Sunday. Here’s the lineup and more info.
If you’re looking to get active, you could run in the Fayetteville Parks & Rec White Elephant 5K on Saturday, or you could race in the Raptor Gravel Grinder starting at Mount Sequoyah that same morning.
What about some holiday arts and crafts? You could pick some items up on Saturday at the Little Craft Show, the annual arts and craft market held annually in downtown Springdale. Here’s more on that.
The Grove Comedy Club in Lowell continues to bring in some big comedy names. On Saturday night, the club will host well-known comedian Bobcat Goldthwait. Here’s ticket info.
