Marianne Vos (Netherlands) held off reigning champion Lucinda Brand in an exciting finish to win the elite women’s race at the UCI Cyclocross World Championships at Centennial Park in Fayetteville.

The two women, who were the favorites coming into the race, quickly distanced the field and rode together until the final stretch, but it was Vos who had the faster sprint on Saturday.

The final podium spot in the elite women’s race went to Silvia Persico (Italy). United States national champion Clara Honsinger finished in 11th place.

The day’s finale followed the junior women’s and the men’s under 23 races, which were won by Zoe Backstedt (Great Britain) and Joran Wyseure (Belgium), respectively.

Another day of racing begins at 11 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 30) with the junior men’s race, the women’s under 23 race and the men’s elite finale.
