Saturday’s races ended with Marianne Vos (Netherlands) winning her eighth world title after sprinting past the current reigning champion Lucinda Brand at the UCI Cyclocross World Championships at Centennial Park in Fayetteville.

Both women were favorites coming into the race, and after distancing the field, the two rode together until the final stretch before Vos took the lead and the win.

The final podium spot in the elite women’s race went to Silvia Persico (Italy). United States national champion Clara Honsinger finished in 11th place.

The day’s finale followed the junior women’s and the men’s under 23 races, which were won by Zoe Backstedt (Great Britain) and Joran Wyseure (Belgium), respectively.

Another day of racing begins at 11 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 30) with the junior men’s race, the women’s under 23 race and the men’s elite finale.
