Sure, Fayetteville is covered in sleet today. And sure, it sounds like there is more on the way. But I think it was Ponyboy Curtis (possibly Abe Lincoln? Robert Frost?) who said, “Nothing cold can stay.” In our experience, he was mostly right about that.

I guess what we’re trying to say is, this sleet is eventually going to melt, spring is going to happen, and when it does, there will be a makers’ market on Mount Sequoyah featuring dozens of local artists and crafters selling their wares, and you might be interested in attending.

The new event, organized by the NWA Makers Club we wrote about back in the fall, is called NWA Makers Market and is set for 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 on the campus of Mount Sequoyah Center.

The market will take place both outdoors and inside some of the buildings on the Mount Sequoyah grounds, and organizers say they expect more than 80 artists to show and sell their work at the event. Items for sale at the event will include paintings, furniture, vintage items, apparel, art prints, bath products, and all manner of handmade things similar to what you’d currently find at the group’s website.

NWA Makers Club is a relatively new group that formed last year, made up of creative folks of all types who “love to collaborate, communicate, ogle each other’s work, and shower encouragement all around.”

The group created the website nwamakers.com to showcase their items, and have also begun hosting a few in-person events like the spring market. They also hosted a local ornament sale at Holidaze on Block this winter.

Locals who’d like to get involved with the NWA Makers can join the Facebook group to become a part of the community.
