The folks behind Fayetteville Roots Festival will host a three-day concert series on the Fayetteville square this summer.

The new outdoor event is set for June 17-19 outside the Roots Festival headquarters at 1 E. Mountain Street. Organizers will use the same outdoor setup as the Roots HQ on the Avenue shows in 2021, which included a stage and tables set up on East Avenue, which was closed to traffic during the event.

Supergroup Bonny Light Horseman, Grammy-nominated songwriter Iris Dement, and acclaimed artist Leyla McCalla will headline the series.

Dement will headline the Friday, June 17 show. She performed at the Roots Festival in 2013 and was set to play the 2020 event before the pandemic derailed plans for that year. Dement will be joined by Canadian-American songwriter, Ana Egge.

The Saturday, June 18 show will feature New Orleans-based artist Leyla McCalla, who will be joined by Black Opry Review artists Lauren Napier and Joy Clark.

Bonny Light Horseman, featuring Anais Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson (Fruit Bats, The Shins), and Josh Kaufman (Josh Ritter, Muzz), will headline the Sunday, June 19 show, along with Jett Holden and Joy Clark. Mitchell, whose new musical Hadestown, has had quite a moment in recent years. The band will headline the Fayetteville show amidst a tour with Bon Iver this summer.

In addition to the music, the event will feature chef-curated food for attendees and local craft beer available to purchase and enjoy on the street.

Tickets to the festival range from $45 for a single-day pass, to $135 for the three-day event.
