A free community paper shredding event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 21 in the Chambers Bank parking lot at 1685 E. Joyce Blvd. in north Fayetteville.

Paper to be shredded can include hanging file folders, paper clips and bulldog clips. However, newspaper and binders or any other cardboard or plastic items will not be accepted.

During the event, donations will be accepted to benefit Best Buddies International, a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).

The event is organized by Christy and Jeff Ward, parents of Arkansas professional cyclist Tanner Ward, who rides for Best Buddies Racing, a team that aims to raise funds and awareness for Best Buddies International. Chambers Bank and Rock Solid Shredding are also partners in the event.

Best Buddies racing is in Fayetteville this week for the Joe Martin Stage Race. The four-day event is one of the longest, continually held cycling races in the country.

Ward is considered to be a favorite at this year’s event. He placed 3rd in the final stage of the 2021 race, and 7th in the overall general classification before joining Best Buddies Racing as one of the team’s newest members.
