FAYETTEVILLE — Work on one new mural is complete, while another is still being painted near downtown Fayetteville.
Artist Jeremy Navarrette (@nvest_inc) last week finished painting on the south end of the retaining wall that runs along the west side of Archibald Yell Boulevard from Rock Street to South Block Avenue. Navarrette’s work, which covers 408 square feet across the first three sections of the concrete wall, shows several images, including flowers, a sunset, fireflies, a couple walking a dog, a biplane, a mountain biker and a cardinal.
Artist Austin Floyd (@austinfloydartwork) this week continues work on the north end of the wall at the intersection of Rock Street. Floyd’s design includes a group of animals that are native to the region using various modes of transportation. It also includes a redesign of the aging Fayetteville High School Bulldog painting.
The murals are part of a larger set of planned improvements to Archibald Yell that were included in the bond issue approved by Fayetteville voters in 2019.

The Fayetteville Arts Council selected the two artists from list of about 20 applicants after the city issued a request for proposals in December.
Floyd is set to be paid $3,800 for the smaller mural, while Navarrette will receive $14,200 for work on the larger mural.
