The multi-genre singer-songwriter, Cody Jinks spent the early part of his career fronting the Fort Worth-based thrash metal band Unchecked Aggression, an experience that cemented Jinks’ decidedly anti-mainstream stance. He returned to his country roots and recast himself as a honky-tonk balladeer in the late 2000s, issuing several well-received independent releases before breaking into the mainstream with his album I’m Not the Devil in 2016.

That record reached number four on the Billboard country charts – a notable accomplishment for an artist working outside the major label system. Jinks spent the next few years writing and perfecting two full-length albums – a solo country album called Mercy and a metal record None the Wiser with his band Caned by Nod, both released in 2021.

Evoking classic styles from outlaw country to Southern rock, Jinks brings high energy and heavy emotion into every performance, with raw and honest lyrics that speak to life’s ecstatic ups and agonizing downs. A Cody Jinks show offers solidarity. It’s remarkably similar to the way self-sustaining fan communities spring up around scenes and performers in the metal world – a mindset that Jinks has repeatedly applied to his country career.

Don’t miss your chance to see MusicRow’s 2020 Independent Artist of The Year, Cody Jinks when he performs live at the Walmart AMP in Rogers on Friday, May 27.
