A new market featuring dozens of local shops is now open in Evelyn Hills Shopping Center.

The business, called The Shops at Brick City, is located at 1404 N. College Ave. in the shopping center, inside the spaces formerly home to Best Sports and Painting with a Twist.

Brick City got its start in Fort Smith a few years ago where it features more than 130 small business booths. The market was named the Arkansas Business of the Year in 2021 by Arkansas Business.

The Shops at Brick City in Fayetteville is set up a bit like a flea market, allowing businesses to set up booths inside the large space and taking care of staffing the cash register, paying the sales tax, setting up events for marketing purposes, and other services. The shops offer new goods like clothing, handmade items, art, home decor, gourmet foods, items for your pets, and more.

The idea is to take away some of the hurdles that small business owners face when they are getting started, to reduce the expenses required to start a small business, to offer support and encouragement for others, and to create synergies between the businesses by creating a one-stop shop with lots to offer.

In addition to the shops, there is some seating inside, and according to a sign in the interior, local restaurant Rymolene’s Pies plans to set up shop near the cafe area soon.

The Shops at Brick City will host an official grand opening celebration from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 28.

After that, the shops will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 12-5 p.m. on Sundays, according to the company’s website.
