An outdoor store that recently closed on Dickson Street will soon reopen in Fayetteville.

The Gearhead Outfitters store at 608 W. Dickson Street closed in mid-April after the building was sold to Chase Bank to be used as the bank chain’s first Fayetteville location.

Gearhead officials said they’re currently planning renovations to the old Ozark Cleaners building at 101 N. Block Ave. for what will become the company’s new home.

Gearhead owner Ted Herget closed on the purchase of the former laundromat property on May 15. He said the plan is to start building out the store as soon as possible.

Store manager Erin Irizarry said she believes the new location makes sense for Gearhead’s customer base.

“I believe Block Street will provide our guests with a unique and iconic shopping experience that represents our local community,” Irizarry said. “Being in the heart of the historic downtown district, our space will be more walkable and accessible to our current and future patrons.”

Herget said extensive renovations are needed, so no timetable for reopening has been set, but Gearhead will have a booth open during First Thursday events this year in downtown Fayetteville.

Gearhead operates nearby locations in Rogers and Bentonville. The company’s website also lists 10 other stores across Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Illinois, as well as an online store at GearheadOutfitters.com.
