Construction work along West Avenue is wrapping up, and the street is now open to all traffic.
Closures on the road first began in October 2020 as part of the cultural arts corridor project now known as The Ramble.
Crews have since been completely rebuilding West Avenue from South to Center streets and overhauling the Fay Jones Woods area into a park as part of the project.
The street design includes new sidewalks, upgraded stormwater infrastructure, and safety improvements for both pedestrians and bicycle riders.
The Fay Jones Woods area is progressing, and could open to the public this month, officials said. Once completed, the woods are set to include accessible trails, a canopy walk, an overlook, a picnic area, and restoration of Tanglewood Branch Creek.
The Ramble work also included improvements to the Razorback Greenway through the corridor.
An upcoming phase will include redevelopment of the West Avenue parking lot across from the Walton Arts Center by Dickson Street. A new parking deck will replace the lot, which is set to become a civic area with water features, a lawn, event spaces, pathways and two multi-use buildings.
The corridor is part of several projects included in a $226 million bond issue approved by voters in 2019.
