Weeklong closure planned on Park Avenue for crosswalk installation

A portion of Park Avenue will be closed for about a week beginning Monday, June 27 while crews work to install a new crosswalk at Trenton Boulevard.

The work is part of a project to create a bikeway connector between the Razorback Greenway and Mission Boulevard. Ongoing construction of on-street bike route is nearing completion on Trenton, and the final work on that phase includes the new crosswalk that will connect to Wilson Park.

The 1.1-mile bikeway includes Park Avenue, Trenton Boulevard, Prospect Street and Rebecca Street, all of which will see improvements in the coming months, including widening of the sidewalk on Prospect Street to a 10-foot side path. The remaining portions of the route will include shared bike-lane markings.

The crosswalk work will require full closure of Park at the intersection. Detours will be established to direct traffic around the construction zone.

The city was awarded a $385,000 grant from the Walton Family Foundation to put toward the cost of the new bikeway connector. The remaining funds needed to complete the project come from the trail improvement bonds that voters approved in 2019.
