Happy Friday.
It’s a great weekend to be a kid in Fayetteville. For one, the kid party of the year every year is at Botanical Garden of the Ozarks on Saturday night. The event, called the Firefly Fling, features a host of activities for kids, including fairy house building, nature stations, crafts and more, along with performances by by fire dancers from Arkansas Circus Arts, along with music by local band Melody Pond, cellist Auralai, and children’s musician Katie Dwyer. Here’s more about that.
If that weren’t enough, the Amazeum in Bentonville is celebrating 7 years in business this weekend with themed pop-up activities all day, including finger knitting, felting, pom pom party hats, a petting zoo, and more.
Up at the Jones Center, the Worst Case Scenario Survival experience is happening again all weekend. The experience, based on the internationally best-selling book The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook, is described as “a bilingual, STEM-based exhibition that engages all ages and abilities in active problem solving and hilarious, full-body play.” Here’s more.
Crystal Bridges has a weekend of music, art, and more as part of their Dirty South Weekend exhibit this weekend. There are several events to check out, including music by Danny Simmons, Vernon Reid and Dwayne Dolphin on Friday night (8:30 p.m.), an artist talk with Nick Cave (2 p.m.) and a SLAB Car Culture Conversation (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday afternoon, a performance by Run the Jewels and Big Boi on Saturday night. On Sunday, Little Rock rapper Big Piph will perform. There’s a lot more, too. Here’s a rundown of the weekend.
George’s has a weekend filled with music as well, including the return of former Fayettevillian, Shawn James, to their stage on Friday night, Illinois-based party band Boat Drunks on Saturday, and country trio Texas Hill on Sunday.
Smoke & Barrel has a local show on Saturday night with Flipoff Pirates and Rachel Ammons, and there’s a show at Fayetteville Roots HQ on Sunday with songwriter Daniel Champagne and local guitarist, Jake Hertzog.
It’s a big weekend at the Walmart AMP as well, with performances by James Taylor, Darius Rucker, Train/Jewel, and more on tap in Rogers.
Have a good weekend, everyone.
