Police: Woman’s body found near Altus in apparent homicide case

A woman’s body was found next to a road near Altus this week in what is being treated as a homicide case, according to the state police.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies received a report that the body was laying near Arkansas Highway 186, south of Interstate 40, at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, according to a news release.

The county sheriff’s department has asked the Arkansas State Police department to lead the investigation.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the identity of the female victim was unknown, and her body had been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the manner and cause of death.
