No. 21 Arkansas women outlast Arkansas State 77-63

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Samara Spencer scored 19 points, leading five players in double figures, and No. 21 Arkansas overcame poor shooting to defeat Arkansas State 77-63 on Sunday.

Erynn Barnum added 16 points on 8-of-8 shooting and Jersey Wolfenbarger had 15 for the Razorbacks (12-0), off to their best start since going 13-0 in 2013.

Only seven players got into the game for Arkansas and the only starter not in double figures was redshirt freshman Saylor Poffenbarger, who missed all 11 of her shots but grabbed nine rebounds, after posting double-doubles in her last two games.

Izzy Higginbottom scored 19 points for the Red Wolves (4-5) and Lauryn Pendleton had 12.

Arkansas State was within 24-23 when Mailyn Wilkerson closed the first quarter with a 3-pointer. Four different players scored, the last Wolfenbarger with a 3-pointer, for a 9-0 run to help the Razorbacks going into halftime up 43-35.

An 8-0 run to start the second half had Arkansas up 16 put the Red Wolves kept pecking away and a Higginbottom layup had them back within nine at the end.

After two early 3s in the fourth quarter the Red Wolves ran out of gas, missing their last seven shots.
Arkansas was 6 of 28 from 3-point range but three came in the fourth quarter. The Razorbacks finished at 38% overall.

Arkansas State was 8 of 26 in the second half (31%) to finish at 39%, going 9 of 24 behind the arc.

The Razorbacks play at No. 18 Creighton on Saturday then go to a tournament in San Diego where they start with No. 17 Oregon.
