Mindcage, the movie starring Martin Lawrence and John Malkovich that was filmed in town late last summer, will be playing at Malco Razorback Cinema in a limited release with showings scheduled for Dec. 16-20.
The new film, which was shot largely in and around Fayetteville last August, also stars Melissa Roxburgh, best known for her work on the Netflix series “Manifest.”

In this spellbinding thriller, detectives Jake Doyle (Martin Lawrence) and Mary Kelly (Melissa Roxburgh) seek the help of an incarcerated serial killer named The Artist (John Malkovich) when a copycat killer strikes. While Mary searches for clues in The Artist’s brilliant but twisted psyche, she and Jake are lured into a diabolical game of cat and mouse, racing against time to stay one step ahead of The Artist and his copycat.

The movie is directed by Mauro Borrelli, who wrote and directed the 2017 Sci-Fi film “TheRecall” starring Wesley Snipes. Borrelli has also provided concept art for a number of films, including the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, “Captain America, Star Wars: Episode VIII,” and others. The movie was written by Reggie Keyohara III.
Local casting director Mark Landon Smith worked on the film, and a handful of local actors are listed in the credits, including Barry Clifton, Laura Shatkus, and others.
It’s been a busy season for movies being filmed in the Northwest Arkansas area. Actors Meg Ryan and David Duchovny were spotted at Northwest Arkansas National Airport in October working on a film titled “What Happens Later,” and a movie starring Justin Long and Kate Bosworth that was filmed in Fayetteville was released in September.
