Hope y’all are thawing out a little bit, and have your power restored after all that mess from earlier this week. Outside of the short-lived beauty, and the sledding and snowman making, that wasn’t all that much fun.
You know what’s fun, though? Weekends. Weekends are fun.
This weekend has an inordinate amount of tribute shows for whatever reason. That’s just kind of how things happened this weekend. JJ’s Live has two, in fact, with Bon Jovi tribute Slippery When Wet on Friday, and the Red Not Chili Peppers (get it) on Saturday.
George’s also has a tribute show with 90s hip hop tribute Gin & Juice on Saturday night. They’ll actually kick off the weekend with local blues act, Brick Fields, and Texas Country act Casey Donahue Band will play later on Friday night.
How about some jazz? Award winning guitarist Jake Herzog and band will perform at the juke joint inside the Pryor Center on the square Friday night. Walton Arts Center has an interesting-sounding jazz show on Saturday night with Chick Corea Afro-Caribbean Experience.
Also in tunes, Smoke & Barrel has a cool local show Friday night with local funky men, The 1 oz Jig.
The play that inspired the Netflix show of the same name, Kim’s Convenience, opens this weekend at TheatreSquared. Here’s more about that.
There’s a big gymnastics meet on Friday night, as the Razorbacks take on LSU at Barnhill Arena. If the crowd is even larger than normal, it might be due in small part to Olivia Dunne, the LSU gymnast who happens to be the most followed athlete on social media in the NCAA.
Also in sports, the Razorback women’s basketball team will take on Ole Miss at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Bud Walton Arena.
There’s more below. Have a great weekend, everyone.
