A representative for three new restaurants coming to Fayetteville’s South Yard development today provided the Flyer with an update on the progress of the projects.

So far, Central BBQ, Fayetteville Taco & Tamale, and The Meteor Cafe have all announced plans to open at the new mixed-use development that’s currently under construction on the site of the old Farmers’ Co-op at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South School Avenue.

Central BBQ was first to announce their plans to open their location, and it appears as though they will also be the first to open. A representative for the development told us Central BBQ is still on track to be up and running at the new location sometime this spring. Their space at South Yard will include a large dining area, full-service bar, and outdoor patio, and will be located near the center of the main building. You can get a look at their menu here.

Little Rock-based Yellow Rocket Food and Drink Concepts will open a Fayetteville version of their Taco & Tamale restaurant in early summer. Fayetteville Taco & Tamale will occupy the space closest to MLK, and will also include a large dining area and outdoor patio. As the name suggests, the menu will focus on a variety of tacos, delta tamales, and other Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes. Here’s a draft of their Fayetteville menu.

Shortly after Fayetteville Taco & Tamale opens, The Meteor plans to be up and running in the free-standing building on the west side of the property. The cafe company, with locations in Austin, Texas and just up the road in Bentonville, serves specialty coffee, natural wine, craft beer, house-made baked goods and other foods, like breakfast tacos, burgers, and sourdough-crust pizza. Meteor locations also include a bike shop with a boutique retail environment that specializes in service along with a selection of bikes, apparel, and accessories. Here’s a first look at their menu. If all goes well, they’ll be open sometime in late summer/early fall.

The new restaurants will anchor the new South Yard development, a $63 million project with more than 194,000 square feet of mixed use space by local firm Specialized Real Estate Group. It will also include commercial space for retail, offices, and other types of businesses.

South Yard Lofts are also located on the site, which include studio apartments as well as one- and two-bedroom units that are currently available for lease.
