A new Chinese restaurant is coming soon to central Fayetteville.

The new restaurant, called Sunny’s Stir Fry, is in the works in the building at 2335 North College, in the space formerly home to Best Sports.

The restaurant is a project by the Shen family that owned and operated Shanghai on College Avenue in Fayetteville in the 90s.

Some of the favorites from that restaurant will be on the menu at Sunny’s, owner Jeff Shen told us.

“The menu is going to be simple with all the classics that the locals like me have missed,” Shen said. “Tofu dishes will be on the menu including Crispy tofu and tofu family style among others. Lo mein and fried rice of course, plus all the old standards. Triple delight, general chicken, moo shu pork, fish with the black bean sauce.”

Shen said that the restaurant will focused on freshly-prepared cuisine.

“Everything on the menu will be made by hand, no pre-made products,” he said. “This includes dumplings, pan fried and steam, crab rangoons, egg rolls and more.”

Renovations of the space are currently underway. Once open, the restaurant will have about 50 seats in a family-friendly atmosphere that’s “nothing fancy, but inviting,” he said.

Shen will serve as chef in the restaurant, and the kitchen will have an open design that will allow guests to see him as he prepares the meals.

“I like to have personal service like we had before, where all of our customers can feel welcome,” he said.

If all goes well, Shen said he hopes Sunny’s will be up and running sometime later this spring.
