Central BBQ has set a date for the opening of their newest location.

Officials this afternoon announced that the Memphis-based restaurant chain will open their Fayetteville store on Saturday, May 6 at the new South Yard development.

“We are thrilled to bring Central BBQ to Fayetteville and be a part of this vibrant community,” said Brian Wyatt, Central BBQ’s Chief Operations Officer in a press release issued Wednesday. “We’ve been working hard to get everything in place for a spring opening and can’t wait for our customers in Northwest Arkansas to try our famous pulled pork, ribs, and BBQ nachos.”

The restaurant company opened its first location in 2002 after founders Craig Blondis and Roger Sapp met and became friends on the barbecue circuit in the mid-80s. Since then, Central BBQ has grown to operate four locations in Memphis along with two Nashville locations. The restaurant chain has received national attention, including features on television shows such as Pitmasters, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, BBQ with Bobby Flay, and others.

The menu at Central BBQ focuses on all the staples you’d expect at a barbecue restaurant, including ribs, brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and of course, barbecue sandwiches topped with their signature coleslaw. They are also known for shipping their ribs right from the restaurant directly to consumers around the country.

The Fayetteville location will offer a full-service bar, outdoor patio, and large dining area.

Central BBQ will become the first restaurant to open as part of the South Yard project, located on the site of the old Farmers’ Co-op at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South School Avenue.

The restaurant will be located near the center of the main building on the property.
