Update: Officials announced that tonight’s First Thursday event has been cancelled due to the threat of stormy weather this evening.

What do you get when you Fayetteville’s favorite monthly outdoor festival on the square falls on May the Fourth, otherwise known as Star Wars Day?

A Star Wars-themed First Thursday, of course.

The event is set to return this week after its winter hiatus this week, with festivities kicking off just after 5 p.m. This month’s festival includes live music by Papa Rap, The Irie Lions, and C4 Clarinet, along with a local art market, a guided bike tour, art installations, a space ship bounce house kid zone, food trucks, and more.

In addition, local design studio E-O Space will install a one-night only “immersive galactic experience’ outside the Visitors Center.

Costumes are encouraged, but not required. The Diamond Garrison of the 501st Legion, described as – an international costuming organization dedicated to well-known space adventure movies – are scheduled to be in attendance. Something tells us these folks will be dressed up.

Food trucks scheduled to appear this month include Burton’s Creamery, Flavorful Kettle Corn, Mama Cacao Wow, Meaux Beignet, Mo Tacos and Churros, The Smackin Shack, and Shobo’s Kitchen.

“We’re excited to see the community gather together on the Square for our season opener,” said Molly Rawn, Experience Fayetteville CEO in a press release issued this week. “Our team has planned an event with something for everyone. We hope that you’ll come and celebrate with us.”

Future First Thursdays are also in the works throughout the summer, and more information about what’s to come is available here.

The event is free to attend and open to the public.
