Despite the current hardships plaguing people, three new businesses have opened within the last few weeks that deserve some attention.

When you throw in the fact that it is a period piece, British, and about a physical ailment, it may be difficult to beat “The King’s Speech” in any race.

Movies can’t always be comfortable. That isn’t their role. Sometimes the best films test your boundaries, make you think, piss you off, and leave you terribly sad. That is the role of “Blue Valentine.”

The film reminds me a bit of “Cast Away.” However, it moves at a much faster pace and feels less constricting and confined, which is odd given that “127 Hours” takes place within a tiny, cramped space.

At the end of the day, this is Colin Firth’s show. As the audience, we are simply lucky enough to be invited to watch a superb actor’s showcase, at the top of his game. No complaints about that.

For a movie with such a simple plot, it is impossible to look away from “Black Swan.” It is scary, mysterious, and shocking.

The story of “True Grit” is well known in Fayetteville, as it takes place in Fort Smith. The film follows the journey of young actress Hailee Steinfeld, as she pursues the man who killed her father.

“The Fighter” is smart, enjoyable, and a feel good story that provides a nice contrast to the rest of the season’s film slate.
