Before you turn up the volume on this week’s mix, cross your fingers for no rain tomorrow (May 22). It’s Block Street Block Party day and we don’t need no stinking water on it.

This week’s mix starts with Leann Grimes’ remix/cover of The Morning Benders’ “Excuses,” titled “Old Bodies Slip When They Make Love” (lyrics from “Excuses”), followed by a Morning Benders cover of Paul Simon’s “Mother and Child Reunion.” Confused yet?

This week’s mix includes a preview from the new Fleet Foxes album, Helplessness Blues, which arrives May 3. As always, thanks to The Tale of The Tape for sharing.

It’s going to be a good spring for Okkervil River fans. The Austin-based folk rockers will soon release their first collection of original songs since 2008.

It’s rare for us to make it very far through a Weekend Mix without discovering something new that we’re immediately excited about. This week is no exception. Diamond Doves will see heavy rotation around here.

For over a year, The Tale of The Tape has been bringing us great new digital tracks. Next month, the guys will venture into live music delivery when they bring Kentucky electro-rock quartet The Pass to Fayetteville.

Our friends at The Tale of The Tape are back in the Weekend Mix game for 2011 and we couldn’t be more relieved.

This week, the guys at The Tale of The Tape have put together ten tracks that are guaranteed to drown out the sounds of any baby, dog or creepy, couch-hogging uncle.

Girl Talk fans rejoice. Mad scientist Gregg Gillis is back and thanks to our friends at The Tale of The Tape, this week’s mix features one of GT’s 12 new tracks.
