‘A walk through 25 million years’ guided hike planned on Kessler Mountain

Want to walk around with some scientists and learn more about the geological history, plants, and wildlife of Kessler Mountain?

Well, then you should clear your schedule for Sunday.

The NWA Land Trust this weekend will host a guided hike with geologist Walt Manger and wildlife biologist Joe Neal from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24. Manger will discuss the way that the mountain fits into the geological story of the Ozarks, and Neal will be on hand to point out information about the birds and plants along the way.

Organizers said the approximately 3-mile hike from the Rock City trailhead to the Shale Barrens should be fairly easy with no steep climbs.

The event is free and open to the public. Hot cider and hot chocolate will be provided after the hike.
