VIDEO: Barrett Baber advances again on The Voice

Fayetteville’s Barrett Baber continues to kill it on NBC’s singing competition show, The Voice.

After wowing judges in the blind auditions of the first round and in the “battles” of round two, Baber advanced again in round three on Monday night.

Baber defeated fellow contestant Blind Joe in the “knockouts,” a competition that pits two of the singers against each other tournament-style, with each vocalist singing different songs chosen by their coach.

Baber sang The Zac Brown Band ballad Colder Weather, a song about being away from a loved one that he said resonated with him due to the time he has had to spend away from his family as a result of his success on the show.

He sang the song directly to his wife in the audience, and even mouthed “I love you” to her once he’d finished the lyrics.

His opponent sang the Willie Nelson/Waylon Jennings classic Mammas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys, and though he said it was a tough decision, the singers’ coach and judge Blake Shelton once again named Baber the winner.

He will advance to the live broadcast round as one of only 20 contestants left to vie for the grand prize, a recording contract with Universal Music Group. The next few rounds will include a performance by each contestant, with live voting by the television audience deciding which artists will advance (here’s more info on the rules for the show).
