Want to be a scientist for a day? You’ll get a chance this weekend in Fayetteville.
The Northwest Arkansas Land Trust is hosting a ‘BioBlitz’ event at Wilson Springs Preserve on Saturday, Sept. 15.
During the event, scheduled from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., attendees will help to document as many living species as possible during the 12 hour period. Volunteers of all ages can help to collect insects, survey for birds, reptiles, wildflowers, and fungi.
Researchers can then use the resulting biodiversity data to help direct future land management activities.
The Wilson Springs Preserve is located in the Clabber Creek bottomlands near Sam’s Club in Fayetteville. The 121-acre property is owned and managed by the Northwest Arkansas Land Trust, and is the largest wetland remands in Fayetteville, and one of the last tall grass prairie remnants in the region.
The BioBlitz event on Saturday is a free and family-friendly event, and no experience is necessary. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Long pants and mud boots are recommended.
Parking for the event will be available at 2783 N. Shiloh Drive.
