For Immediate Release:

Hogeye Marathon to Celebrate 35th Running With Special Guest

The Hogeye Marathon, half marathon & relays will have a special visitor for the 35th running on April 10, 2011. Jeff Galloway will be in Fayetteville as a guest speaker and will put on his famous “running school”. As a member of the 1972 Olympic team, Jeff competed against the world’s best athletes in Europe, Africa, and the former Soviet Union. Among his victories are the Peachtree Road Race, Honolulu Marathon, Atlanta Marathon and top place finisher in many prominent U.S. races such as the Boston Marathon.

Jeff’s quest for the injury-free marathon training program led him to develop group training programs in 1978, and to author Runner’s World articles that have been used by hundreds of thousands of runners of all abilities. His training schedules have inspired the second wave of marathoners who follow the Galloway RUN-WALK-RUN™, low mileage, three-day, suggestions to an over 98% success rate. He is the author of over a dozen books and is the coach for 200,000 people world-wide. “We are thrilled to have such a wonderful ambassador for the sport of running. Mr. Galloway has helped inspire athletes from beginners to professionals. His presence at the 35th Hogeye Marathon will increase participation in a sport that has experienced a reemergence in the past few years”, said Tabby Holmes, Hogeye Executive Director.

“We have a lot to be excited about in 2011, stated Holmes. It is the 35th year for the full marathon, the 10th year for the half marathon, our 4-person Relay is a special race being included in the Arkansas Grand Prix, and for the first time, we will have a kid’s marathon. We are already receiving registrations online.” Fayetteville Mayor, Lioneld Jordan, is looking forward to the April event, which begins and ends on the Fayetteville Downtown Square, continuing through the University of Arkansas Campus and the paved trail system. “We are happy that the Hogeye Marathon will celebrate this thirty-five year milestone of excellence as a race. We welcome participants and supporters to this festive run, and I hope they enjoy our city and its beautiful trails. Having Jeff Galloway here will be a nice addition to an already growing event,” said Mayor Jordan.

The Hogeye Marathon & Relays is a charitable event that gives proceeds to Northwest Arkansas charities. “The fact that all of the money stays right here is what has drawn so many local people to get involved in the Hogeye”, said Tabby Holmes, Co-Race Director. “I believe that people are becoming more interested in a healthy, fit lifestyle. We have seen the number of participants and volunteers rise steadily and are looking to increase our numbers in 2011 by drawing runners from the surrounding states. We try to offer something for people of all fitness levels, including a corporate 5K run/walk. This allows companies to get employees involved in fitness, which will help in the fight against rising healthcare costs.” The Hogeye also offers a half marathon (13.1 miles), and a 4-Person Relay and a fitness expo on Saturday at the Cosmopolitan hotel, the host hotel and headquarters for the event.
