The pump track world championship final is scheduled at The Jones Center’s new bike park this weekend in Springdale, but the first wheels to line up at the start ramp will be a group of kids ages 3-6 on Strider balance bikes.

The kids will race a few days before the main event on Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 4-6 p.m.

The new Runway Bike Park includes the nation’s largest pump track, and will host riders from across the globe at the world championships on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Qualifying rounds for the final began in March in Indonesia. Other events have since been held in the Philippines, New Zealand, India, South Africa, Chile, Thailand, Scotland and France. In all, 21 qualifying events will have taken place around the world ahead of Saturday’s final.

The new 2.75-acre park was built on the southeast corner of The Jones Center campus, and is made possible thanks to a $1.1 million grant awarded by the Walton Family Foundation. It includes aeronautic-themed riding features, three skill development lines, a balance bike course, a kids bicycle playground, and a pavilion.
