The University of Arkansas African-American Resource Group and the Office for Diversity and Inclusion are planning to host their annual Juneteenth event virtually this month.

The event is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, June 19 via Facebook Live.

This year’s celebration will include music by DJ Derrick, along with speakers and “a few surprises,” organizers posted on the official Facebook Event.

Juneteenth, also known as the “African American Emancipation Day,” originated in Galveston, Texas in 1865, and is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery.
