After years of discussion, the Garland Avenue widening project is finally underway. A seven-month project kicks off this week that will prepare the area for road construction.
The building, once home to Sunrise Cafe, was razed as part of a road widening project that, until recently, hasn’t shown many signs of movement.
The buildings once home to Tony C’s Bar & Grill and Munchies have been reduced to a pile of rubble along Garland Avenue.
The plan proposes four lanes and a continuous median in between, with strategic breaks for a fifth turn lane. And it will feature bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the street.
Many fear that Fayetteville will end up with another North College Avenue-esque road in Garland Avenue.
