The deal doesn’t appear to be done, but it looks like Academy Sports + Outdoors is eyeing property for a retail location in Fayetteville.
Ryan Gill of McClelland Consulting Engineers Inc. filed a civil plan with the City of Fayetteville for property adjacent to Malco Theatres in Fayetteville, and the plan was on the city’s Technical Plat agenda for March 14.
The planning documents call for a 71,680 square-foot building and large parking lot on 14.53 acres located on Steele Crossing, just south of the movie theatre.
Academy spokesman Allan Rojas could not confirm or deny whether the sporting goods chain was looking to locate a store in Fayetteville.
The retailer has expanded rapidly over the last few years, and currently operates over 140 stores in 11 states.
Looking at press releases on other Academy stores that have opened around the country, a typical store employs approximately 100 people.
