A commemorative plaque identifying the Clinton House Museum’s addition to the National Register of Historic Places was unveiled yesterday to a crowd of about 30 people at the house on California Blvd. in Fayetteville.
The house, which was officially added to the National Register on January 22, 2010, was the first home of former President Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. The two were married in the living room in October 1975 and lived in the house until December 1976 when they moved to Little Rock.
The house features a gift shop, a garden and rare memorabilia from Clinton’s early political career, including his campaigns for U.S. House of Representatives and Attorney General.
The National Register is administered by the National Park Service and serves as the official federal list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects significant in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering, and culture. Since its inception in 1966, more than 80,000 properties have been listed in the National Register.
